Lee Western is a retired Detective Constable and qualified Financial Investigator with more than 29 years’ police experience, the majority across financial crime. He has worked extensively in the serious and organised crime arena, leading and supporting complex investigations and building strong financial strategies to identify criminal benefit and pursue confiscation.
He completed the National Fraud Course and the National Crime Agency financial investigation training modules, and holds a Master’s degree in Fraud Management from Teesside University. Throughout his career, Lee has trained, tutored and mentored officers undertaking the National Fraud Course and those completing financial investigation accreditation, helping to build capability and confidence across teams.
Since retiring, Lee has worked with a police force in a British Overseas Territory to establish an Economic Crime Unit and to train and mentor financial investigators. This programme is ongoing.
Lee’s approach is practical and collaborative: selecting proportionate tactics for the task, reinforcing established good practice, and coaching individuals to apply financial investigation confidently in live cases. He focuses on building sustainable capability that improves outcomes for victims and strengthens organisational resilience.
